The renovation preserved and enhanced the remaining historic integrity of the building while establishing 23 units of rental housing within the framework of the existing structure. The renovation retained the exterior features of the masonry and terra cotta on the east façade, removed appendages from the west elevation, and reconstructed the street level arches to bring the building back to its original 1891 design. The interior work maintained the existing historic fabric, including stair towers, common area millwork, fireplaces, etc., while establishing contemporary living units.
The residents residing in the Washington Building Apartments have a unique service feature with direct access to the adjacent senior center.
